Jefferson's Monticello
In January 1827 the family of Thomas Jefferson, who was the architect of Monticello and our third President, auctioned off
slaves, farm equipment and household furnishings in an attempt
to offset mounting debt. Monticello, based on the classical style of Palladium architecture, proved to be very expensive to maintain. |
