Walker Art Center
Dayton's, a leading department store in Minneapolis, was established in 1902 by George Draper Dayton as Goodfellows. Recognized for quality merchandise, superior service, fashion leadership and community involvement, it merged in 1969 with J.L. Hudson Company, a dominant Michigan retailer, to form the Dayton-Hudson Corporation. In 1962, Dayton's opened its first discount store, Target. Dayton's produced this commemorative bag with a Frank Stella design in different colors on two sides. A tribute printed in the bag's gusset (side), reads, "Dayton's salutes the opening of Walker Art Center's new galleries".
