U.S. Mail Bag
These mail bags were used on railway mail service trains starting in the 1940s. The Railway Post Office train made its last run between New York and the District of Columbia in 1977. The grommets around the top allowed it to be fitted onto a sorting rack, and after sorting, they were locked and tagged for routing.
